4 weeks into my second semester I am finally getting into things that I will be able to apply to my composition. Today we learned how to choose different chords, and what types of chord progressions to use depending on what feeling you want. Lombardi told us that when he first started taking theory they would call progressions containing mostly I-IV-V-I chords masculine because they were more straight forward. Chords containing more chords like I-ii6-III-vi-vii6-I were feminine because they are not as harmonically direct. Then they switched masculine to strong and feminine to weak. ^_^ Now they don't even discuss the chord progressions like that (it's not "politically correct"), but I think it helped me remember. I was thinking that John Mayer uses feminine progressions (thus why all the girls think he is so sweet?) whereas Blink-182 uses masculine progressions. I think I tend to make up feminine progressions most of the time also. Theory is cool.
I actually woke up early today! I got up at like 6:45. That was cool because that left me time to read my Bible in the morning. I think my day is going to be much smoother starting off on the right foot. I also think that is why I understood theory so much better today.
