We started studying applied chords in my theory class. I don't understand it at all. They are so confusing. From what I can tell, an applied chord is a chord that is not in the key signature you are composing in, but when you are labeling it you have to label it in the key signature you are in and the key signature that that chord is in. So, if I were in the key of C and I used a D chord that was built with a D,F#,A. That chord would be labeled as a V/V (five of five) because you switch to the key of G which is the fifth chord in C, and play a V chord in the key of G. I don't understand why I couldn't label it as a II or ii #3. I guess it has to be V/V so that you know you have changed into a different key signature. Not only that but for all the roman numerals after that they have to be written in the new key sig. So a I one chord is no longer built on top of a C, but on top of a G. I'm so confused.

t is not like anyone who reads this is going to have a clue what I just said, but if I explain the concept to someone than it is easier for me to understand it. In other words, teaching is the best way for me to learn. So now class, open your books to page 163 and... oh, sorry. ^_^

On a side not I forgot to grab a lunch today, and I don't want to spend any money either. So I guess I'm going cold turkey today. I also forgot my bass book, so I can't practice. I really wanted to practice because I have me bass jury coming up and I have to have a G major in three octaves, an etude of my choice, and this piece by Bach that I decided to do.

Did I tell y'all about my thrifting excursion the other day? I was going by salvation army thrift stored because they have a lot of books for really cheap. Anyway, I saw this old book without the spine and it was all beat up. So I thought to myself "I wonder what book that is." So i picked it up and the cover fell of revealing that it was "Morning and Evening Reading" by Charles Spurgeon! I was so jazzed! It is a 1955 print also, so that makes it even cooler. I was going to buy that book soon anyway, so that has made my week. I like Spurgeon.
