I don't know if it's better to say that my most recent knitting project has gone wrong or right. You wouldn't think that it would be all that difficult to tell, after all it is something that is either right or wrong. I was making a messenger bag, you see. You know, one of those shoulder bags otherwise known as a man purse. In any case, I realized when I was nearing the end that it was going to be really small. So I decided to continue knitting and make it longer. When I finished it was the perfect size to hold my iBook lengthwise. However, when I put my iBook in and picked it up it sagged like old underwear. I should have seen this coming but I'm dense like that. There was, in my mind, only one solution to this… felt it! If you don't know what that is look it up.

So I felted it tonight. I did it by hand instead of in a washing machine and it was quite fun. But much to my chagrin I forgot how much shrinkage there is involved in felting. The end result was most definitely going to look like a purse if I put a strap on it and shouldered it. While discussing it with my roommate I was tossing around ideas of what else it could be. Something more masculine was a must. I was messing around with it when I shoved it on my head, after all everyone knows that if you don't know what to do with something you've made you try it out on your head. But the great thing is that it fits perfectly! It's a sweet beanie thing! The way I knitted it created two perfect corners at the bottom that look like cat ears or you can tuck them and and it looks like an almost normal beanie. But the best part is the brim. The flap I made to close it is the perfect brim. Curved perfectly and floppy enough to make it a fantastically fun looking hat. I love it!

Who knew all along I was subconsciously making a hot awesome hat!

Pictures will follow as soon as I get my camera back form Mike…
