Last night I decided to create some knitting needles. We had a dowel on hand that turned out to be a size 11 which I don't have. I spent the next couple hours in the shop drinking saw dusty tea and making needles. It was fun.

I cut the dowels to 10" and put little scraps of black walnut on the ends.

Next I shaped the black walnut with some random tools we had in the shop. I don't know what they are, I just use 'em.

Then I coated them with tung oil...

And volia I have new knitting needles.

I was a little bit worried that the ends would throw off the balance and make them annoying to actually knit with but I find them to be very comfortable. All in all I am pleased.
