Why would Jesus tell his disciples to buy swords (Luke 22:35-38) only to turn around a moment later, when he is getting arrested, and rebuke Peter for using a sword? Jesus said, "put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you not think I cannot now pray to my Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?" (Matt. 26:52-53). So why, if he obviously wants us to pray instead of resort to violence, would he tell the disciples to buy swords? Is it a power under control thing? Seeing that one could defend himself but willingly choses not too? Or even seeing a total injustice (as was the case when Peter was defending Jesus during His arrest) and choosing prayer over violence? I don't know. I'm inclined to believe so. However why would Jesus still tell them to buy swords?
