Saturday was my birthday. Even though I had to work all weekend I had probably the most wonderful birthday ever. I had to serve all the meals for a huge women's retreat all weekend. However, that was actually one of the reasons I had such a great birthday. I would have probably liked it better if no one had known about it but Amanda had to tell everyone a few weeks ago.
On Friday night on of the ladies I was serving got talking to me and had to go and ask me how old I was. Stupid me told her I was 19 but turning 20 on Saturday. So she got the who room singing Happy Birthday to me. It wasn't that bad considering I was serving the smallest room so it was only 40 or 50 women. And after that she told me that her friend's daughter just turned 20 and started trying to hook me up with the girl.
Well on Saturday morning someone told the retreat support guys that it was my birthday and all 300 ladies started singing to me. Ahh! I covered my name tag and walked into the kitchen where they promptly pushed me out in front of everyone! I was so embarrassed.
Nothing really special happened except that when I was reading my Bible God showed me something so cool. I had been fairly bummed about having to work on my birthday and God showed me that I was getting the chance to serve Him in the most practical was I ever have. I mean, Jesus lives in each and every one of the ladies I was serving so in a sense I was able to serve Jesus all His meals for weekend. That's the real reason my birthday was so amazing.
Also on Saturday night when we were clearing the plates, one of the tables I was serving, which had a lot of women I had been able to talk to quite a bit, called me over to clear there plates. Lo and behold they had stacked all their plates and put a pretty folded napkin on top with 2 birthday cards on top of that. Then, of course, they sung Happy Birthday to me again. It was amazing. Those ladies were too kind.
After that I bummed around in the coffee house until 12 then went to Denny's for some dinner. I got bak around 2am and had to be back to work at 6:30. All in all It was quite a delightful birthday.
